What we keep, and why

Wardens of the Deep is made by meester ontwikkeling b.v. (“we”). This page covers this website and the game's optional online services. Questions or requests: info@wardensofthedeep.com.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics, no trackers, no advertising. Fonts and images are served from this site itself.
- Like any web server, ours keeps short-lived technical logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) to keep the site running and to stop abuse.
- If you email us, we keep your email so we can answer it.
Playing offline
Single-player saves and settings stay on your own computer unless you sign in to an online account. While you are signed in, each save (autosaves included) is also uploaded as a cloud save, and your progress (race, deepest floor, number of descents) is updated on our server. Sign out in the game to stop this.
The online features
Online co-op, the lobby and cloud saves use our own server. If you use them, it stores:
- Your account: a friend code, the name you play under, and, if you claim the account with one, your email address and a password. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash. We also keep hashed login tokens and recovery or reset codes (never the codes themselves) and the date the account was created. Your email is used to log in and to send you password-reset codes or account notices. It is never shown to other players.
- Your game: cloud saves (uploaded automatically while you are signed in), your factions and their progress (race, deepest floor, number of descents), your friends list, and when you were last seen.
- What other players see: your play name (or your friend code if you have no named faction), your race and deepest floor in the lobby and on games you host, and your chat lines with your name. Anyone who knows your friend code can add you as a friend, with no acceptance step; friends see when you were last online, your race and your deepest floor.
- Fair play: the items you win in co-op (kept in your account's item vault), with a record of where each one came from and every trade it went through (the friend codes on both sides and when), plus any warnings, mutes, trade bans, suspensions or bans on the account. Trades you make also show up in the item records of the players you trade with.
- Lobby chat and the list of open games are held in memory only and disappear when the server restarts.
- Your IP address is used briefly to limit abuse (rate limiting). It is not stored with your account.
Who else handles it
- Our server runs with Elestio on Hetzner hardware in Germany (EU).
- Password-reset and account emails are sent through Resend.
- If you buy the game on Steam, Valve handles that purchase under its own privacy policy.
We never sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or for training AI.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Email info@wardensofthedeep.com from the address on your account (or tell us your friend code) and we will act within one month. Deleting your account deletes its account record and cloud saves. Fair-play records (warnings or bans, and the origin and trade history of items now held by other players, which can name your friend code) may be kept as long as needed to keep the shared game fair. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept while the account exists. Ask us and we delete it. Server logs can contain your player name or friend code; we keep them only as long as needed to run and protect the service.
Children
The online features are not meant for children under 16.
